Before Sheertex, there was Sheerly Genius. Learn more about the journey that got us to where we are today.
Our story began in 2017, not as Sheertex, but as Sheerly Genius. Our CEO, Katherine Homuth, founded the company to solve an age-old dilemma. Humans have cured diseases, landed on the moon, built cars that drive themselves -- but pantyhose couldn’t make it through the day without falling apart.
Always up for a challenge, Kat began an 18-month research and development process. After months of trial and error, she worked with suppliers to develop a unique super-strong polymer -- the kind of stuff found in ballistic materials and climbing gear. When one of our suppliers found out that we were trying to turn CSI-grade material into lightweight pantyhose, they told us it was like turning peanuts into lemonade. But after coming up with our secret recipe, Kat turned the polymer into our ultra-strong knit technology: a one-of-a-kind formula that transforms bulletproof vests into pantyhose. It took some time, but we did what they said could never be done.
The origins of Sheertex trace back to Bracebridge, Muskoka, in a 2,100 square foot facility occupied by six employees. This is where we began shipping out our first products in January of 2019. By the time summer rolled around we were packing up our little and loyal home, and were moving Sheertex to Montreal, Quebec, taking over the largest hosiery factory in Canada (115,000 square feet!)
Our team has grown from six people to just under 200 in just a few months. Working under the same roof, we have created an unparalleled sense of teamwork and collaboration. We’re proud to pour our love into our work, just like we did from the beginning.
Our core values revolve around that same desire to make the impossible possible. They said it couldn’t be done, but we turned peanuts into lemonade.
