Our story began in 2017, not as Sheertex, but as Sheerly Genius in Bracebridge, Muskoka. Our CEO, Katherine Homuth, founded the company to solve an age-old dilemma. Humans have cured diseases, landed on the moon, and built cars that drive themselves—so why can’t pantyhose make it through the day?
Always up for a challenge, Katherine embarked on an 18-month research and development process to solve this problem.
When one of our suppliers first found out that we were trying to turn one of the world’s strongest fibers—the kind of stuff found in ballistic materials and climbing gear— into lightweight pantyhose, they told us it was like turning peanuts into lemonade.
After months of trial and error, that’s exactly what we did. We successfully developed a miniaturized version of one of the world’s strongest fibers and created the Sheertex proprietary knit: a one-of-a-kind formula that now makes the world’s strongest pantyhose.
We shipped out our first products in January 2019, as a team of five people operating out of a small factory in small town Ontario, Canada.
Today, the Sheertex team has grown to almost 200 people, and now operates entirely out of the largest hosiery factory in Canada.
